New Academy opens in Morecambe
Morecambe Bay Academy opens its doors for the first time on the 1 May 2019.
Morecambe Bay Academy will open its doors on 1 May, marking a historic new beginning for secondary education in Morecambe.
The Academy will be a member of The Bay Learning Trust, a local Multi Academy Trust established to improve the life chances of children across our community. The Trust have been successful in securing very substantial capital investment for the school site. An extensive programme of building and refurbishment work including a new Art and Music Block, new roofs and new windows and a modernisation of facilities will begin immediately.
Pupils are excited about their smart new uniform with a new academy logo which can be viewed on the academy website. The school has secured a grant to enable the academy to give every current student a blazer and tie for September. This means that the only cost to parents will be the purchase of a new pair of trousers or a skirt over the summer holidays.
The Bay Learning Trust has appointed Mrs Victoria Michael as the permanent Principal of the new academy. Mrs Michael has been working in the school over the last 16 months and has overseen a range of improvements. She will continue to work closely with the other school leaders in the Trust to secure the best possible outcomes for all the students at Morecambe Bay Academy. Professor Crewdson, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Bay Learning Trust said “We are very excited that Morecambe Bay Academy is joining our family of schools, we believe that the school and its young people will thrive in our Trust and look forward to working together.” The Bay Learning Trust is a group of local academies comprising of Ripley St Thomas Church of England Academy, Carnforth High School and now Morecambe Bay Academy. Central Lancaster High School will also be joining the Trust in the coming months, giving staff in all four schools great opportunities to work together to improve the life chances for the young people in our local area.
